8 TH GRADE – U.S. HISTORY & HONORS – NANCY TURNER RULES: 1. Follow all directions the first time they are given. 2. As soon as you enter the class, start your beginning procedure before tardy bell rings. 3. Raise your hand and get my permission to speak or leave your seat unless otherwise directed. 4. Keep your hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself. 5. Cheating or talking during test time equals a zero on the test. ALL SCHOOL AND COUNTY RULES APPLY IN THIS CLASSROOM. CONSEQUENCES: 1. The 1 st time a rule is broken, a verbal warning will be given. 2. The 2 nd time, the student will get a written warning on the board. 3. The 3 rd time, a writing assignment will be given and is due the next day. Writing assignment will be to write all U. S. Presidents 5 times. 4. The 4 th time or failure to turn in discipline assignment will result in detention and parent contact. 5. Referral to the dean will result when the above steps have failed to modify behavior, failure to attend detention or bring back detention note and SEVERE BEHAVIOR. 6. I reserve the right to use time out or change seats when I feel it is necessary. REWARDS: Positive letters home, praise, stickers, special events, free homework coupons, library time and more. There will be awards for individuals. SUPPLIES NEEDED; 1. Pencils or pens. Some assignments need to be written in pen. 2. A plastic 3 ring folder. 3. Notebook paper. Please avoid spiral notebook paper. It makes a mess. 4. At times, markers, poster board and other art supplies needed to complete marking period projects. COURSE OF STUDY: U.S. History from Native American’s arrival to the end of the Civil War Special Units on the Constitution, Military History, Family History, Elections, Minority History & Geography CLASS METHODS & TOOLS: Textbooks, Mandatory 9 week projects, documentaries, movies, computer programs, essays, art, memorization, games and more!!! GRADING SYSTEM: Homework and classroom assignments = 34% Tests, quizzes, essays, projects & group work = 66% 100% EXTRA CREDIT: Must be turned in 1 week before the end of the marking period can include monthly calendars, written reports on approved movies & documentaries, pamphlets from historical places visited, artifact sharing & anything else I pre-approve. 6 homework coupons given for rewards equal 100% on a homework assignment. These cannot be used for tests or projects.. Extra credit will increase grade averages, interest in history and knowledge. ABSENCES: Students need to be in my class everyday. Make up work will be given to the a student that has been absent but it is the responsibility of the student to get missed notes, daily assignments and homework assignments. Students missing tests cannot make them up during class time. Make up tests are given before or after school. If a student does not make up a test within 3 days of the absence, the student will receive a zero on the test. |
